    Although “Ann” can look like a woman’s name in English, in Haitian Creole it means “Let us” or “Let’s.” The name was chosen so Haitians would understand the organization’s purpose and feel invited to prepare the future together.
    How did APL’s school begin?
    In 2014, 20 local children were removed from school because their parents could not pay tuition. APL responded by hiring teachers and opening classes inside a church. That initiative has grown into a tuition-free K–12 school serving 400 children.

    APL works closely with Fundación Casa de Luz de la Frontera (FUCADELP), its trusted local NGO partner. FUCADELP leads implementation on the ground, coordinates local teams and resources, and helps turn shared plans into practical results.

    Students study English and Spanish in addition to their primary language. They also receive training in coding, computers, CPR, and EMT skills.

    APL’s food program reaches approximately 7,000 families each month across the wider rural region. A typical distribution includes 10 pounds of corn together with cooking oil, tomato paste, and salami.

    Seven wells have been established throughout the surrounding rural region. Together, they provide clean water for approximately 20,000 people across 15 rural communities.
    What healthcare services does APL provide?
    An onsite doctor provides free daily healthcare and medications to all students and staff. APL also hosts free medical mission clinics three times each year. A separate community clinic is under construction, and an ambulance is being donated to transport high-risk patients to the hospital in Pedernales for advanced care.
    How is APL building long-term financial sustainability?
    APL is building a three-story income-generating property in Pedernales, Dominican Republic. The project includes rental storefronts on the first floor, 15 rental spaces on the second floor, and 18 hotel rooms on the third floor. Rental income is intended to provide dependable long-term support and reduce dependence on donations.

    According to APL, 100% of every donation funds APL projects. Gifts support the school, students, teachers and staff, daily school clinic services, medical missions, community clinic construction, water wells, and the food program.
